B.C. health officials release their weekly update on the latest hospitalizations, deaths and new cases.

On Thursday, 385 people were in hospital with the virus, down from July when hospitalizations remained stubbornly in the low 400s.The BCCDC, which releases its latest COVID-19 data every Thursday, said there were 173 hospital admissions from July 31 to Aug. 6, a dramatic decline of nearly 45 per cent from the previous week’s 312.The figure, however, is an inaccurate reflection of the true number of COVID-19 cases in B.C. as most people are not able to access PCR testing.

Positive test results from rapid test kits used at home are not included in the official figures.During the same week, 28 people died within 30 days of a positive COVID-19 test. In comparison, 54 people died the week prior. B.C.’s death toll from the virus sits at 3,995.et the latest COVID-19 news delivered to your inbox weeknights at 7 p.m.
