Information about the virus will also be reported less frequently as Ontario steps back from some pandemic services.

Meanwhile, the province has also begun loosening COVID-19 regulations in long-term care homes. As of March 31, staff and visitors will not have to be tested before entering long-term care homes, nor will caregivers and visitors be required to answer screening questions. Masks will still be required indoors.

As of Wednesday, there was only one remaining assessment centre for the general adult population in Ottawa: the West Ottawa Clinical Assessment Centre on Draper Avenue, run by Queensway Carleton Hospital. Queensway Carleton Hospital had asked the province to keep the centre open. It was unclear as of deadline whether it would remain open.

The closure of assessments centres could make it more difficult for people without family physicians to get assessed if they are ill with COVID-like symptoms and could put more pressure on emergency departments if there is another surge. However, testing and treatment with anti-virals are widely available through pharmacies.Article content

The province has also stopped requiring public health units to link COVID-19 cases to outbreaks, which means the data may be underreported and “no longer appropriate to include in our surveillance products,” said Public Health Ontario in a statement.Article content
