Doctors urge those at high risk of more severe illness to seek out antiviral medication at first signs of infection

As has been the case every summer since 2020, COVID-19 activity has been on the upswing across San Diego County, with test positivity and even hospitalization rates increasing in July.

Detection of coronavirus viral material in local wastewater, seen as the most immediate and broad-based signal of current spread in the community, is also up recently, though nowhere near as high as it was one year earlier.a mean value of 1.6 million copies of coronavirus genes per liter compared to 19.8 million per liter on July 26, 2022.

“The typical symptoms that we’re seeing are congestion, sore throat and sometimes fever,” she said. “They have been overwhelmingly mild cases for the most part.”
