A Vermont couple shares their journey building and living in a 30-foot yurt, highlighting their off-grid systems and sustainable lifestyle.
A couple, Charles and Jill, have been documenting their off-grid lifestyle in a rural Vermont yurt on their YouTube channel. They moved to Vermont years ago in a travel trailer and gradually built their off-grid systems and a 30-foot yurt, a modern adaptation of traditional Central Asian nomad shelters. Their home features a deck, windows, insulation, heating, a bathroom, and a skylight, equipped with solar power and a rainwater collection system.
Charles, who grew up in the countryside, always dreamed of an off-grid life, while Jill yearned for a nature-filled existence. Building their own systems, including solar and water collection, took a considerable amount of time and money. The yurt itself cost around $30,000, and the overall cost of building and setting up was substantial. Despite the initial investment, they now enjoy minimal expenses, no debts, and freedom from financial pressure. Living off-grid has also heightened their awareness of resource consumption
