Country music star Travis McCready plays first socially distanced live concert in U.S. bishopgunnmusic

Country music star Travis McCready played to an audience wearing face masks in what’s been described as America’s first socially distanced gig since the coronavirus lockdown.

The Monday night concert in Arkansas was characterized by compulsory temperature tests at the door and masks if concert-goers lacked one to wear throughout the show. Arrows on the floor created one-way traffic and dots helped keep social distancing for all attendees. Similarly, bathroom sinks and urinals were taped off.

Concert-goers were required to buy seats in clusters, branded fan pods, and large areas of the TempleLive venue in Fort Smith were separated by yellow tape.— Chris May May 19, 2020Of the 1,100 seats available, just 20 percent were available for sale, the New York Times reported. Daniel Neathery, 33, of Benton, Ark., bought six tickets — at US$20 a pop — even though he came alone and sat solo at a fan pod.The Bishop Gunn frontman was due to play his show last Friday, but the gig was called off after officials withdrew the alcohol licence, claiming the venue was in defiance of the state’s ban on large gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

TempleLive officials subsequently moved the show to Monday – the day the state is allowing theatres, arenas, and other indoor venues to reopen with limited restrictions.
