Olympians Caileigh Filmer of Victoria and Avalon Wasteneys of Campbell River helped Team Canada complete the 2,000-metre course at Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, where theySydney Payne was born and raised in Toronto, Ont., but has roots on the South Island, having attended Mill Bay’s Brentwood College School.
The team’s time of 5:58.84 was about four seconds behind Romania, which took the lead and finished at 5:54.39. Great Britain came third at 5:59.51. Team Canada’s only medal in rowing at Paris 2024 comes after its women’s eight previously won gold at Tokyo 2020.
