“Within a week, we had a roof on it and we can get it to lock up,” said Hill. “And this is our prototype. The next project we’re going to push that even further.”
They call it BOSS, which stands for Building Offsite Sustainable Systems, and the East Vancouver house is a demonstration of how it can work at construction costs of about $325 per square foot, Hill said.Article content Generally, prefabrication in housing construction, “is not what I would call pervasive,” said Ron Rapp, CEO of the Homebuilders Association of Vancouver.
“Change is slow to come to the construction industry … because what’s working is working,” Rapp said. “One of the challenges in that area is how do you stage, how do you handle the logistics, when you’re in the middle of a built-up residential neighbourhood,” Rapp said.
