City of Saskatoon says no matter which way Monday\u0027s vote goes, green bin collections will still start on May 1.

He isn’t satisfied with a section in an odour management plan that states the company will make “best efforts” to minimize potential odour, he added.

“We’re opening ourselves up to the possibility that those odours will just be there on a frequent basis. And they may come and go, but who wants to live next to those odours?” he said, adding he is also worried about unsightly piles of backlogged material or items deemed unsuitable for composting.Article content

Weldon noted Green Prairie representatives canvassed the area within one and a half kilometres of the proposed site, and got at least 14 signatures in support. Weldon said material brought for composting “doesn’t sit in piles that are smelly, it’s basically processed into compost as quickly as possible,” and that the process will work in the cold. He said the company expects the majority of the material composted in any given year will be yard waste like grass clippings and leaves, which won’t generate odours while composting.
