Copper Copper production in Peru down 6.6% in July, ministry says

- According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru , copper production in Peru, the world’s second largest copper producing country, amounted to 195,234 tonnes in July 2022, down 6.6% compared to July 2021 . MINEM said that this negative performance was mainly due to lower production by major local copper mining companies, including Compañía de Minera Antamina S.A. and Southern Peru Copper Corporation .
At the company level, Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. is first with a 21.1% share in total Peru’s copper output, followed by Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A. and Southern Peru Copper Corporation . The ministry added that at the regional level, Áncash is first with a 21.3% share in the country’s total copper production, followed by Arequipa and Junin .
