San Jose’s Latimer School boasts 3,300 square feet of garden goodness, and the K-eight-graders are eating it up.
Latimer School in San Jose teaches children how to tend to a garden. The agricultural oasis provides 60 varieties of flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables. For some of the kids, its all about the bugs. They are quite curious about these creatures."I can have fun here, and I can do what I like to since I really love to garden," said third-grader Emily Lottermoser.
Volunteer parents Amy Cody and Boris Wolf planted the Latimer Garden seed back in 2020 with inspiration from teacher Helma Lee. It has since exploded from a humble bunch of Lee’s veggie pots into Mother Nature’s classroom.
