This was not government land; it was privately owned. The Ford government did not sell it, gift it or steal it. And contrary to the claims of some, the Ford government did not control the sale or purchase of these lands.
In her report Wednesday, auditor general Bonnie Lysyk put forward the opinion that the government didn’t need to take the 7,400 acres out of the Greenbelt, that there is already enough available land to build houses on. That’s her opinion, not a statement of fact, and it ignores several other factors.Article content
That means that in 2022, Ontario settled more new immigrants than the entire country did the previous year.
