The MV Europe is one of about a dozen container ships anchored in the bay waiting for an opening to dock. It began leaking fuel on Saturday. An update on the Canadian Coast Guard’s official social media accounts says a boom was put in place around the ship on Saturday “and no further releases of fuel have been detected.Photo by Canadian Coast Guard“We continue to work with the ship’s owners and our response partners to respond to this incident.”
The coast guard says it is “working today to aggressively contain the slick and remove as much as possible from the marine environment. The Musqueam, Tsleil Waututh, Squamish and Lyackson First Nations are identifying areas of cultural sensitivity to ensure response partners protect those areas if needed.”
