The Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play, which is also available for sale on some Canadian websites, is a product meant to help babies sleep by rocking them back and forth.

An American consumer watchdog group is demanding the recall of an incline sleeping chair for infants that has been linked to over 30 baby deaths in the last eight years.

Last week, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Fisher-Price jointly issued a safety alert for the product, warning consumers to stop using the Rock ‘ Play when infants turn 3 months old, or “as soon as an infant exhibits rollover capabilities.” The statement also acknowledged that the product had been linked to the deaths of 10 infants three months or older.

“Based on the deaths and injuries associated with the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play, the product clearly puts infants’ safety at risk and should be recalled immediately,” said William Wallace, senior policy analyst for Consumer Reports, in a statement released on Monday. “All other inclined sleepers should be investigated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The company also reminded parents to follow all product safety warnings: “always use the provided restraints, always place infants on their backs to sleep, and make sure that no pillows, blankets or extra padding are placed in the Rock ‘n Play Sleeper.”
