JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The first phase of construction on the Riverfront Plaza is set to begin Monday, June 5, and there are several development projects set to change.Action News Jax’s Jimmy Marlow was downtown this week to find out more. Marlow says there are several development projects set to change the economic and entertainment footprint of downtown Jacksonville; but that also means that this park which is also used as an event space could be less accessible for events and festivals.
Starting June 5th, crews will start phase one of construction for what is being called “One Park Jax” that will include many new amenities, such as a central lawn, a river terrace, a hotel and sky garden, & outdoor dining options.After phase one is finished, crews will begin phase two, a $166,600,000 44-story tower housing 332 apartments, a 7,500 square foot restaurant, and 330-space parking garage.
The question is, what will happen to large events like Jazz Fest, and Jax River Jam that use this space during these development projects?
