The Conservatives are facing mounting pressure to release how much each of their election promises would cost taxpayers, as leaders prepare for Wednesday’s French-language debate.

On the second day of the campaign, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole promised to release a version of his party’s platform that had been reviewed by the Parliamentary Budget Officer , Canada’s government spending watchdog.With the election less than two weeks away, a costed platform has not yet materialized."When we launched our plan we said we would have an update from the Parliamentary Budget Officer . We will have that I hope, shortly," he told reporters on Tuesday.

O’Toole has promised massive increases in provincial health transfers, but is also pledging to balance the budget in the next 10 years, relying on an optimistic view of the economy coming out of the pandemic. Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau has already begun bringing up the issue. On Tuesday, he accusing O’Toole of not being forthright with voters on how he plans to balance the budget.
