Three Conservative Members of Parliament abandoned a trip to Strasbourg, France, in late June midway through the planned itinerary, leaving their fellow MPs, and returning to Canada on hastily arranged flights home, say two other members of the delegation. The three MPs—Lianne Rood , Larry Brock , and Jamie Schmale —have declined to explain their reason for abandoning the trip early, but Brock implied the party’s whip, MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay , was involved in the decision.
The trip was organized by the Canada-EU Parliamentary Association, one of several groups that allow parliamentarians to travel abroad and network with lawmakers and other influential people in other countries. The House of Commons foots the bill for those trips.
