The House panel has presented stunning evidence about the attack on the U.S. Capitol, laying out the details of what it calls an"attempted coup" by the former president as he desperately sought to overturn the result of the 2020 election.

The panel wrapped up its summer of televised hearings with an eighth instalment during prime time on Thursday that revealedon January 6, 2021, watching the violence at the Capitol unfold on television and refusing to listen to his advisers as they urged him to tell his supporters to stop. The hearing prompted two newspapers owned by Rupert Murdoch to publish scathing editorials on Friday condemning Trump's conduct as the violence raged.'s editorial board wrote in an editorial titled"The President Who Stood Still on Jan. 6."
