Conservative leadership race: Eight contenders to become PM through to next stage as shortlist revealed

The candidates who have made it through to the next stage of the race to replace Boris Johnson have been revealed

Another running theme is candidates insisting they want to run a clean campaign as they try to turn around how the Conservative Party is perceived.

She backed claims Gavin Williamson, who is on Mr Sunak's team, has organised the siphoning off of some votes to get Mr Hunt over the threshold into the second round.
