The federal government is freezing the tolls on the Confederation Bridge for 2023. FileCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The federal government is freezing the current toll rates for the Confederation Bridge for 2023.
Transport Canada said it will provide funding to Strait Crossing Bridge Ltd., which operates the bridge, to avoid increases in tolls related to high inflation. Without the funding, the federal government said tolls were set to increase significantly next year due to continued pandemic impacts and inflation.
"Today's investment to freeze Confederation Bridge tolls will ensure that Islanders and Island businesses are not left paying the bill for revenue shortfalls that have been caused by pandemic-related travel restrictions," Malpeque MP Heath MacDonald said in a release.
