Condoleezza Rice backs Trump in canceling Taliban Camp David peace deal meeting: 'Whatever the reason, it was a good decision'
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has come out in defense of President Donald Trump's dramatic u-turn on an imminent peace agreement with the Taliban, suggesting that the militant group had become overly confident during recent negotiations.
Rice was National Security Advisor to President George W. Bush during the 9/11 attacks and the subsequent invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, and later Secretary of State during ongoing operations in both countries.that Taliban leaders had been due to travel to the U.S. ahead of the Camp David meeting, which was slated to secure an agreement to end the fighting in Afghanistan. "The last years, not just the Trump administration, but going back to the Obama administration, we were talking about the importance of leaving, we need to bring the troops home. We all want the war to end," Rice told Colbert."But I think the Taliban had become convinced they could get just about any deal and it's good that the meeting canceled."
