“It just disgusts me, and I think that they’re hoping that no one will take a stand, and that everyone will just shut up,” said Melanie Goodheart, a nine-year resident of The Renaissance who opposes the purchase. “It is just a gross abuse of power.”
“I commend this board that they have the foresight to try to acquire this property because if a developer buys this property and puts a 20-story high-rise in front of the community, it will have a detrimental impact on the values of the condominiums,” Mast said, adding that some units could lose 20 to 25% in value, if a building is developed on the property.
Head and Goodheart fear the thousands of dollars in fees for the property, plus subsequent taxes and maintenance, are “undoubtedly going to result in foreclosures.” They are working with a group of other residents to oust the board. If he can’t remove the board, Head said he will sue to stop any purchase of the property.
