Carolyn's story is one of resilience and the power of community. After facing the loss of her father and partner within months, she also needed a new roof. Local volunteers and businesses stepped up to help, replacing her roof in a heartwarming Random Act of Kindness.

Carolyn has faced unimaginable loss in recent months, but her story is also one of resilience and the power of community. In June, Carolyn lost her father, who was also the sole driver in her household, leaving her dependent on the kindness of neighbours and the Red Cross to transport her mother to Sault Ste. Marie for medical appointments. Just three months later, her partner of 25 years, Betty, was diagnosed with cancer.

Betty’s illness came swiftly and tragically, and she passed away only six days later. Amid these hardships, Carolyn faced another challenge: the roof of her home was in desperate need of repair. In true community spirit, local volunteers stepped up to replace the roof, while generous local businesses provided the necessary materials. Watch as a roof is put over Carolyn’s head! Sincere thanks to our generous sponsors, Soo Mill and Green For Life Environmental for making this Random Act of Kindness possible. *This video surprise was shot in early November to ensure Carolyn had her new roof before the snow arrived for the season. SooToday is proud to make a difference in our community by highlighting extraordinary individuals and organizations with this Random Act of Kindness, a foundational piece of our SooToday Cares program. The SooToday Cares team's mission is to create meaningful change in Sault Ste. Marie and inspire others to do the same. Visit sootoday.com/cares to watch all of our Random Acts of Kindness videos
