The motion calls on CSIS, RCMP officials and Liberal cabinet ministers to give testimony.

Conservative MPs accused the Liberals on Tuesday of attempting a coverup over reports of Chinese interference in the 2021 election, while Liberals said the Conservatives’ aim was to take “partisan jabs at the prime minister.”

But when the issue came to a vote, MPs on the procedure and House affairs committee were unanimously in favour of such a probe, in the wake of astory based on secret and top-secret CSIS documents detailing attempts directed by Chinese diplomats to sway the election outcome. The motion presented by Conservative MP Michael Cooper proposed summoning senior officials of the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service, as well as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other security bodies.
