Of course, we’ve never been short on resources or opportunities in this province. Our challenge has been more about managing those opportunities, maximizing the benefits to our people, and resisting the urge to squander the benefits we have received. Due care and attention needs to be given by government to ensure we get this right in the future.
Now in fairness, it’s important to acknowledge some of the cost of living measures implemented by government over the past few months. However, more needs to be done, including dealing with the current housing crisis, and those efforts need to be specifically targeted towards those struggling the most, including the working poor.
Now once again, in fairness, it’s important to acknowledge that Health Minister Tom Osborne has embarked on a number of initiatives since inheriting a health-care system in crisis from his predecessor. However, the bottom line is that the majority of the measures announced to date will not bear fruit for several months and some one-to-two years out. And of course, people are suffering right now.
