Whether or not we want to admit it, our perceptions of personal beauty are manipulated daily through advertising that seduces us into the consumerism of high-profile cosmetics, current hairstyles, trendy clothing, body-building equipment and weight-reduction plans.
From this perspective, beauty has nothing whatsoever to do with “doing” anything. You can all relate to this concept. Personally, as a teacher, I’ve had the privilege of meeting many beautiful people who have enriched my life and remain memorable despite the passage of time. One of these would be a retired man at this point, but he springs to mind these many years later because of his infectious positive spirit.
Others, closer to our own time, lead us in the same direction: “No matter how plain a woman may be, if truth and honesty are written across her face, she will be beautiful,” said Eleanor Roosevelt.
