Come 9:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on Monday, they will be off and running, those would-be candidates for 17 open slots on the 54-memberOn Friday, the Academy notified members that so-called “opt-in” voting for the board seats will be active through what used to be called the “work week,” untilmuddled such distinctions. The voting period closes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Under the Academy’s three-step voting process, self-proposed contenders will be weeded out in a qualifying round that allows up to four official candidates for each spot. Those are submitted to the various branches—actors, directors, editors and so-on—for a final vote to fill seats that fall empty in July.
Eligible for re-election are another 14 current governors whose terms are expiring: Kate Amend , Albert Berger , Charles Bernstein , Teri E. Dorman , Richard Edlund , Whoopi Goldberg , Larry Karaszewski , Christina Kounelias , David Linde , Isis Mussenden , Kimberly Peirce , Tom Sito , Wynn P. Thomas , and Mandy Walker .
