Near double-double helps San Diego State push past Utah State 62-57 for conference tournament crown and gain NCAA momentum

This was the Jaedon LeDee the San Diego State basketball team salivated over since he arrived on campus. Ravenous rebounder. Concrete-block shoulders, turning the lane into a bowling alley as overmatched defenders scattered like struck pins. The LeDee that scored 15 points and ripped down nine rebounds without committing a foul, while causing Utah State to burn a game-high six trying to corral him, is something to behold. And if you’re wearing a different uniform, something to avoid.

That odd-bounce rebound? It’s his. That loose ball? His, too. The basket needed at just the right time? Take a wild guess.— only amplified the impact. When LeDee sat for nearly four minutes of clock time, through a TV timeout, through a long shot-clock violation review and to the brink of another timeout at crunch time, it seemed appropriate for someone to put out an all-points bulletin.

“He’s a good ballplayer,” said 7-1 Utah State center Trevin Dorius. “He’s versatile. He’s got a good little mid-range shot. He’s quick, explosive. He’s somebody you’ve got to take account for on the offensive glass.”LeDee was at his most impressive on a trio of second-half moments in near succession where he wasn’t credited for rebounds. One came on a ball he attacked at the rim, but was negated when he was raked across the face for a foul.

The physicality of LeDee alone impacts games. Coupled with the type of wide-ranging contributions he delivered against the Aggies and he has the ability to impact entire tournaments.
