The Crew made sure no late letdowns spoiled a dominant performance in win over Nashville SC
, which has been a vexing trend for the Crew going back to last season. What they did have was what coach Wilfried Nancy calls “spirit,” which helped the Crew polish off a win over the MLS Eastern Conference’s second-place team.
Otherwise, the weather was nearly perfect, the Pride themed pregame celebration was picturesque and the Crew essentially hosted a clinic in how best to defend the league’s Golden Boot leading goal scorer, Hany Mukhtar, by using a possession game. It was the lone goal in a half filled with Columbus scoring opportunities that included two golden opportunities for Cucho Hernandez. The Crew’s leading scorer was denied in the game’s second minute from just outside the box and also rolled a shot wide of the right post nine minutes later with a diagonal shot that moved left to right.
“I think it’s a performance that shows a lot of growth," Ramirez said."The first 35 were incredible and then found a little bit at the end of the first half. We came in , regrouped and figured out a couple different situations we needed to work on, and we did. We showed a lot of growth from the last time we played them to this time and from what happened last week at the end of the game to what happened this week, scoring a goal. Big credit to all the guys.
