The Colts are making a QB change again. They're continuing to make decisions for the sake of change and change alone. ForTheShoe
. At the time, Colts head coach Frank Reich announced that the decision to bench Ryan for Ehlinger was permanent. Reich was then relieved of his duties and coach Saturday inserted Ryan back into the starting lineup after Ehlinger looked predictably terrible. Saturday is now benching Ryan for a third quarterback. What a mess the directionless Colts are.
Ryan now returns to the sidelines after doing his part in Indianapolis’ epic Week 15 collapse. Ryan and the Colts historically blew a 33-point lead against the Minnesota Vikings in a 39-36 overtime defeat. Ryan completed 19-of-33 passing attempts for 182 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. Ryan will finish the season with 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Ryan wasn’t particularly effective against the Vikings, but he wasn’t Indianapolis’ lone perpetrator, either. There’s plenty of blame to go around for Indianapolis’ breakdown. Colts general manager Chris Ballard didn’t surround Ryan with enough talent across the offensive line and at the wide receiver position throughout the offseason. Not to mention a Colts defense that allowed 36 second-half points. Ryan is falling on the sword for Indianapolis’ collective failures.
Foles hasn’t attempted a regular-season pass in 2022. Foles appeared in all three of the Colts’ preseason contests. He completed 15-of-22 attempts for 152 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Foles also lost a fumble and was predictably uninspiring. He played sparingly for the Chicago Bears in 2021, accounting for just 250 passing yards and one touchdown. Foles isn’t the answer to Indianapolis’ wide-ranging offensive woes.
