As COVID numbers fall, reservations for ski trips are increasing to pre-pandemic levels. Spring break is expected to be normal at Colorado's resorts for the first time in three years.
Mask mandates have been ending, COVID numbers have been falling, and advance lodging reservations in ski country have been running strong.
“That’s when the vaccine was still new — it was just being made available to most adults,” said Elisabeth Lawrence, a Summit County commissioner. “It was a different time. We still had capacity restrictions, further distancing, things were spread out in restaurants. Now we’re in a really different place.”
“We have strong visitation for March and lodging is up, but it’s spread throughout the month, compared to our busiest week of the season over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays,” said Purgatory marketing director Amanda Anderson. “As with last year, we are seeing strong demand from ‘first-time’ visitors, as people are looking for a different experience over the mega-resorts. Guests traveling by air is the highest it has been.
