“We understand that everyone’s burning question is whether Lake Reveal will be open,” Arapahoe Basin’s news release reported. “The answer is, we hope so. Lake Reveal is completely natural, and it reveals itself when it’s ready.”
Ski season is winding down for the last two Colorado ski areas remaining in operation, soon to end what has been a spectacular snow year for many resorts.
Winter Park, which has been operating out of its Mary Jane base, announced on Wednesday that it will shut down on Memorial Day. Also on Wednesday, A-Basin announced it will close on June 4. “The melt-off has accelerated, so we won’t make it to June,” said Jen Miller, as spokesperson for Winter Park, which runs Mary Jane. “Monday will mark the end of our longest winter season ever, 211 days of skiing and riding. We had our earliest opening ever on Oct. 31 and will close out with nearly 400 inches of snowfall — 397 to be exact.
Fans of Arapahoe Basin want to know whether Lake Reveal will be open soon. That’s an alpine pond that forms on the upper mountain, attracting skiers by the dozens hoping to ski across it, not to mention spectators by the hundreds hoping they don’t make it. Crashes are epic.
