Colombia military kills top commander of FARC splinter group that rejected 2016 peace deal in the Latin American country

President Ivan Duque says Euclides Espana alias Jhonier was killed in a clash with the military, calling it"one of the greatest blows" dealt to the FARC dissidents.

President Ivan Duque announced in a statement on Monday that Euclides Espana –– alias Jhonier –– had been "neutralised." That year they signed a pact to end the fighting –– but dissident members of the group have splintered off.Jhonier, whose age has not been revealed, coordinated several of the dissident organisations that are commanded by 'Gentil Duarte' and 'Ivan Mordisco', two of Colombia's most wanted men.
