One of Australia’s largest supermarkets is trialling a new feature on staff uniforms to combat rising rates of theft and violence towards workers.
Customers may notice staff wearing the cameras in shops across South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.
A Coles spokesperson emphasised most shoppers do the right thing but there are some who continue to flout the rules. “And we have a range of security measures in place to reduce theft from our stores including security personnel and surveillance technologies such as CCTV.” The devices will enable the retailer to understand what is happening to team members in “real time,” Coles transformation general manager Sophie Wong told 7News earlier.to air their frustrations about the new trial, arguing food prices were an “absolute joke”.“I can’t believe it’s come to this … people are getting more and more crazy and violent,” added another.
