Also discussed amendments to dog bylaw and how councillors receive information

The Municipality of Colchester council held their monthly council meeting on Oct. 27. - Brendyn CreamerTRURO, N.S. — The Salmon River school site has long been a contentious topic in and around the community.Municipality of Colchester

Johnson, who represents Salmon River, said that less than a hundred of those survey respondents were from the community. Some discussion had been made at the council committee meeting on Oct. 14 regarding whether to install the Level-2 or the faster, more expensive Level-3. Staff did not recommend the Level-2 charger due to a lack of electric vehicles in the area and their slow charge times.

This amendment would provide animal control officers with more options to enforce the bylaw. This includes requiring dogs to be on leash on any municipal property that is properly marked, requiring owners to leash dangerous dogs outside their homes or keep them inside, and requiring signage warning of the dangerous dog.

Under this amendment, anyone convicted under this by-law may be prohibited from owning a dog in Colchester County. Those convicted may also face a fine of up to $10,000 or imprisonment for 90 days or less. While several staff members have had similar experiences to Lomond, several came out against the motion, including Coun. Karen Mackenzie.

Heather Allen-Johnson of Protect Wentworth stated that the setback should be a minimum of 1.5 km; others, such as Garfield Moffat, suggested that the setback distance be three kilometres unless an agreement can be made with landowners surrounding the proposed development., stated in his presentation that setback distances, currently set to one kilometre in the municipality’s wind turbine by-law, are stringent but reasonable.
