The designation, announced in a press release on April 25, comes with $200,000 in funding, which the CCSS said will be used to fight the root causes of food insecurity and to help provide client-centred care, including nutritional education and food literacy while adapting to the community's needs.
Furthermore, the CCSS will develop three-fourths of an acre as a community teaching garden in partnership with the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission, Dalhousie Agricultural College, United Way and Knights of Columbus.Colchester Food Bank raises over $74,000 in annual donation drive "You can feel the energy from those who are involved in the planning of the garden project," said Shelly DeViller, CCSS executive director."This funding puts our organization in a position to hire the staff needed to collaborate on food literacy education with other community partners, gives us further ability to reach the rural communities in Colchester and provide a dignified client-centered service using innovative approaches.
"Gardens aren't just about growing plants; they're about growing communities," said Kennedy."By supporting our garden to help the food bank, the Knights of Columbus are providing fresh produce while sowing seeds of hope within our community.
