Coco Gauff's winning streak continues at the Australian Open as she overcomes a second-set challenge from Jodie Burrage to advance to the third round. Gauff's focus on improving her serve and forehand is evident as she navigates the match and prepares for her next opponent, Leylah Fernandez.

Coco Gauff extended her undefeated start to 2025 to seven matches and 14 sets, advancing to the third round at the Australian Open with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Jodie Burrage of Britain. The 2023 US Open champion and a semifinalist at Melbourne Park last year, Gauff faced a slight challenge in the second set, struggling with double-faults and dropping four consecutive games, shifting the momentum from a 3-1 lead to a 5-3 deficit.

However, when Burrage served for the second set, Gauff regained control, launching a four-game run to clinch the match. 'It was tough. She was serving really well, so I was just trying to manage that, honestly,' the third-seeded Gauff said. 'She really stepped her level up in the middle of the second set, so I was just trying to be offensive when I could.' Gauff committed six of her seven double-faults in the second set but remained steadier overall, finishing the 1 1/2-hour match with 11 groundstroke unforced errors compared to Burrage's 37. Burrage's final two service games both concluded with double-faults, and two in a row led to a 6-5 score. From there, Gauff completed the victory as she continues to refine her serve and forehand, two areas she has been diligently working on since late last season. 'She was returning well, so it put pressure on me on my serve,' Gauff said. 'If I landed anything short, she was landing a winner.' Adding to her impressive streak are four consecutive wins that led to the WTA Finals title in November, including straight-set victories against world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and No. 2 Iga Swiatek. Gauff's winning streak now stands at 11 matches. This run also includes a win in the United Cup team competition against her next opponent, No. 30 Leylah Fernandez, the runner-up to Emma Raducanu at the 2021 US Open
