It didn’t take long for Coco to gain a reputation as a player to watch in Delray Beach and beyond. By the time she was 10, she’d traveled to France to train with Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena’s coach. As a junior player, Coco was the youngest U.S. Open junior girls finalist and among the youngest French Open junior girls champions. She’s currently represented by Team8, the agency cofounded by Roger Federer.
“Tennis in the U.S. isn't, like, that big of a sport, and now I have people, like, stopping me on the street and everything,” she says. “I guess it's a plus.” Coco admits that her schedule and being homeschooled make it hard to make friends. Other than her best friend, Jamilah, who Coco has known since she was 10, the teen says she leans heavily on her large family. “I don't really look at my cousins as cousins, more as friends, because I actually hang out with them,” she says. “Now that everything has happened, I know that they are going to always have my back.
