Tyre Extinguishers, an environmental saboteur group, struck in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston, deflating the tires of 43 luxury sports utility vehicles Wednesday night.
The activists targeted Beacon Hill residents because they are wealthy, according to the group, and targeted the SUVs to stop greenhouse gas emissions directly. In addition to slashing tires, the group left condescending leaflets on the vehicles that read, “ATTENTION: Your gas guzzler kills. You’ll be angry, but don’t take it personally. It’s not you, it’s your car. … You will have no difficulty getting around without your gas guzzler, with walking, cycling or public transport.
The group cites inaction by government officials on climate issues as a factor in attacking private property.“They can chant whatever they want, but they can’t impose it on other people,” Ms. Wood told the Boston Globe. Another resident who preferred anonymity told WBTS-CD, a Boston NBC affiliate, “I know another person in the neighborhood. He’s a firefighter and he couldn’t get to the station and that’s frustrating. There are plenty of people here who work at the hospital and couldn’t get to work on time.”
