The Center Street Bridge won't reopen till early October as safety tests continue.
David Petkiewicz, cleveland.comCLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland’s Center Street Bridge will remain closed for at least another week as crews have finished construction and moved into the safety testing phase of the project.
The red swing bridge, a main artery between the west and east sides of the Flats, was set to open in late summer. But Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman Brent Kovacs said safety testing will take another week. “If something breaks it will push the re-opening timeline back,” Kovacs said in an email. “As soon as the bridge can be re-opened safely, we will open it.”
The ODOT website now says the project will be finished in early October. Kovacs said the construction and painting is finished, but testing needs to be done to look at all of the mechanical functions of the bridge and to make sure they work together., closed in January 2022 for what was at first supposed to be 10 months of construction.Kovacs said the delays really came down to how unique the Center Street Bridge is.
