N.S. flood victim surprised by apartment makeover | SaltWireST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador became the third province in the country on Thursday to proclaim into force Clare’s Law.
“Intimate-partner violence is a pervasive issue that transcends boundaries of age, gender and socioeconomic status. It often remains hidden behind closed doors, shrouded in secrecy and fear, often leaving victims isolated and unable to seek help. Clare's Law seeks to change this by enabling individuals to access information about their partner's criminal record.”
Justice and Public Safety Minister John Hogan said that in 2017 the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary received more than 1,500 intimate-partner violence referrals, and so far this year there have been almost 1,700. The application and more detailed information about the process is available online at www.gov.nl.ca/clareslaw.
