Recently resigned Childersburg Police Chief Rick McClelland was driving his city-owned truck on June 25 when he ran off the road.
A city vehicle driven by the then-Childersburg police chief when he crashed and was taken to the hospital had a “strong odor” of alcohol, according to a police accident report.
McClelland was driving on Alabama 235 near Coosa Pines Drive and Coosa Industrial Park First Road when he ran off the road to the right and struck a guardrail. “There was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle,’’ according to the accident report. “Two beer cans were located near and collected into evidence.”
