The city of Tacoma plans to remove another homeless camp, this one on East 11th Street near the Hylebos bridge in the Tideflats area.
Removal of the camp, where 15-20 people are living, is expected to begin Friday, May 27, the city said in a news release Friday. Officials will post 72-hour notices there on Tuesday, May 24.
“The City is taking this action to respond to environmental impacts and the health and safety of people living in the encampment,” according to the news release. “Garbage and debris removal will happen after the encampment is unoccupied, and staff will continue to provide resources and notice to individuals on the site prior to the encampment removal.
