Certain municipal services will not be available to residents on Labour Day Monday
With Labour Day falling on Monday, the City of Greater Sudbury is letting the public know certain services will not be available to them. The Sudbury and District Labour Council is hosting a gathering at Morel Park beginning at 11 a.m. Monday to celebrate working people and highlight issues that matter the most to them. An earlier event beginning at 10 a.m. will be sensory-friendly.
Greater Sudbury Police Service issued a statement urging residents to do their part to ensure road and community safety during the long weekend. Their list of tips includes: Instances of impaired driving jumped earlier this year, with drug-related impairment – namely, opioids – spiking. There’s an exemption in the Highway Traffic Act that allows people to use their phones to dial 911 while driving in emergent situations, and Greater Sudbury Police Service Chief Paul Pedersen affirmed last year that suspected cases of impaired driving are, in fact, emergencies.
