Samuel Whitt jailed for 54 months after destroying rental home he was evicted from in November 2016.
A Cincinnati man who spray-painted racist graffiti on the walls of a home owned by an interracial couple, as well as filling up their bathroom drains and toilet with quick-drying cement, has been jailed.after being convicted of hate crimes for targeting the rental home owned by Pat and Joe Jude in November 2016.
Benjamin C. Glassman, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, said that Whitt violated the Fair Housing Act through force by willfully intimidating two homeowners based on their race, color and familial status. "Combine these actions with the message 'die n****r,' and Whitt's depraved intentions were clear," prosecutors said .
"I want this conviction and sentence to send a message to racists in the Southern District of Ohio," Glassman said in a statement."It's your right to wallow in noxious beliefs to your heart's content, but act on those thoughts with violence and you will go to federal prison for a long time. Together with our law enforcement partners at all levels, this office will enforce the federal laws against hate crimes vigorously and to their fullest extent.
