Canada’s finance minister said she’s struggling with her decision to hold back on giving people financial help to manage rising prices. Chrystia Freeland’s fall economic statement, tabled on Thursday, identifies inflation as the “top global challenge” today. In her speech, she promised not to get in the central bank’s way as it tries to batter it back with interest rate hikes.

But she told reporters she’s personally struggling with her decision to hold back help for Canadians contending with inflation, in order to avoid driving up inflation further.
