Unconfirmed reports say Canadian soccer legends Sinclair and Matheson are involved in the launch and the announcement may come anytime this week.

after winning bronze at the two previous Summer Games. But there has never been a national league for women, only pro-am leagues in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.

Canadian soccer stars Sinclair and Matheson, who have long been linked to the possible creation of a women’s league in Canada, are said to be involved in the project.after winning gold in Japan. “I think it’s time Canada gets a professional league or some professional teams, and if a gold medal doesn’t do that, nothing will. It’s time for Canada to step up.”

The country already has a men’s league, the Canadian Premier League, which consists of eight teams, with talks underway for more teams to be added. Earlier this week, CPL commissioner Mark Noonan mentioned his commitment to seeing a women’s soccer league established in Canada. “We need to work with Canada Soccer and other powers that care deeply about it to create a women’s league in Canada,”, noting it’s cause closer to him because his younger sister grew up having to play on the boys’ teams because there was no women’s league for her to compete in.

“For a long time women’s sports was a cause — we need to do this because it’s the right thing to do. It’s now a business, and it needs to be treated like a business.”
