I invite you all to visit your local library, bring a friend and explore big ideas that have the potential to transform the world around us.
We are living in a time of deep societal divisions while wanting to feel connected with each other. Our digital world has made it easier than ever to communicate with others across the globe and allow us to share our perspectives and personalities. Our connected world also requires us to take responsibility for what we write and read.
Taking action starts with questioning what you see online. Does the promise of a health story seem too good to be true? Does a sensational headline seem hard to believe? When a topic interests you, take time to seek out the research behind the story and validate what you’ve read.
Literacy helps us gain understanding of different cultures and how our experiences differ from others. Reading fiction builds empathy because it gives us insight into each other; limitless possibilities exist in the stories available in our libraries and our communities. Non-fiction choices explore and explain how we think, helping identify how innate bias can influence what we believe.
