The boy had exited a karate studio after finishing class and was crossing the street to go to his parent's car, Daniel Jacowitz, a CHP spokesperson, told SFGATE. The surveillance video, which came from a business across the street from the karate studio, shows the driver slowing down slightly after hitting the boy and then driving off, traveling southbound on Nunes, according to CHP.
"That could indicate that the driver was aware that they may have hit something," Jacowitz said."In any case, if you believe that you hit something you have an obligation to check, it's your obligation to the community. You have to get out and check to see if you were involved in a crash." Jacowitz said that based on the surveillance video, the driver's speed is initially"normal," but after striking the boy, the driver appears to accelerate.
