One needed a liver transplant.Bassett cites possible reasons for a sudden spike in severe poisonings: It is “not rare” to see people poisoned who were in search of the hallucinatory properties of some mushrooms, Bassett said. Some have been hospitalized for psychotic episodes and organ failure.that younger people were searching for mushrooms in the genus, which can be poisonous but also includes species that deliver psychedelic effects.
