U.S.-China tensions over the coronavirus pandemic rose further as a Chinese health official pushed back against an idea promoted by the Trump administration that Beijing hadn’t been fully transparent—a day after President Trump threatened to permanently cut off funding to the World Health Organization.
The president also said he is taking hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug he has touted as a possible coronavirus treatment but that some scientists caution needs further study and could be dangerous.
